Abstract

Porter writes about the last campaign of the Civil War, Grant's activities regarding the capture of Fort Fisher, Dutch Gap Canal ; Grant requests Lincoln meet with Stephens and Campbell, Robert Lincoln joins Grant's staff, Stanton tells Grant that Lincoln does not want him to conference with Lee, except for Lee's surrender ; Congress gives Grant a medal.
