- Description
- Three boys, children of Thomas Cole, sit in the grass outside Winkler Mill. The mill was first built in 1824 by John Hersey for processing flax and grist. The mill changed hands and purposes several times over the year, eventually becoming a grain mill under the ownership of Joseph Winkler in 1868. The mill closed in 1920, served as an antique shop between 1945 and 1961, and burned down in 1985.
