Caption: The 1976 Festival season opened as Aldo Ceccato and the DSO performed American orchestral works by the eminent composers George Gershwin and Aaron Copland. Audience members were given candles to be lit on cue in ancient Roman tradition to celebrate our nation's bicentennial birthday. The idea for the heartwarming illumination was suggested by Mrs. Ceccato, and the candles were given by courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bean.
