Caption: July, 1964. Festival manager James Hicks (far right) and architect-acoustician Christopher Jaffe (near scaffolding) observe as technicians skillfully manuever a segment of the acoustical shell into place. The Lula C. Wilson Memorial Concert Shell is a fiberglass, semi-cylindrical structure constructed to eliminate sound reinforcement or amplification. The Wilson Trust generously contributed to the initial development of the facility and continues to support the Meadow Brook Music Festival. Photo: Courtesy of Jaffe Acoustics, Inc.
